Level of Students Involved: Undergraduate, Graduate This Group will host: Corporate information sessions, Educational information sessions, Graduate School information sessions, Networking events, Speaking events American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) umichaiaa@gmail.com, http://umich.edu/~aiaa/ Group Summary: The U-M Student Chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the premier professional aerospace society that seeks "to educate and excite students at U-M about aerospace technologies and sciences, and to promote fellowship among students interested in these topics." The objective of the U-M AIAA is "to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of aeronautics and astronautics. AIAA fosters the professional development of those engaged in scientific and engineering activities."

We believe that design is about people, and that the best designs are sustainable, taking into account all social, economic, and environmental impacts. For these reasons, our project teams are multidisciplinary and emphasize collaboration with local and international stakeholders to ensure that identified needs (typically in the areas of agriculture, education, energy, resource management, and water) are appropriately addressed. We offer students the opportunity to hone their interpersonal skills, engage in social responsibility, participate in an interactive design experience, and develop as servant leaders.

We are a non-profit, student run organization, and our goal is to design, build, test, and fly two radio-controlled, unmanned airplanes to compete with at the annual SAE Aero Design Competition.

We currently support eight project teams as they develop health care solutions such as a portable gynecological exam table, a solar-powered refrigerator, and an non-invasive blood glucose detector.

We are a competition-oriented team whose goal is to compete in and win the University Rover Challenge (URC) that takes place every year at the Mars Society’s Mars Desert Research Station near Hanksville, Utah. Our members consist of everyone from freshman to graduates that represent a range of majors from the College of Engineering and the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
